2024 Spirit of Christmas

On December 13, 2024, Norwich University Post #1819 of the American Legion brought 45 “care packages” to the patients staying at the U.S. Veterans Administration hospital in White River Junction, VT over the holidays.

This project is a joint effort of Norwich University Post 1819 of the American Legion and Norwich University, with Post 1819 providing the materials and 13 students from the Norwich University Corps of Cadets hand-writing the Christmas cards and filling the stockings.

Though unable to visit with the patients and personally deliver the gifts & cards this year due to an on-going construction project at the VA, coordination is already in the works for visits next year to hand-deliver the stockings to patients. Nonetheless, the project’s goal of showing our appreciation to the veterans in our community at a time in which they are again separated from family and making their stay at the VA at little more pleasant, was achieved.

The project was spearheaded by our new Service Officer, Michael Wabrek, with the help of the freshman cadets (no longer Rooks!) from the Naval ROTC Battalion, and Karen Campbell, the VA’s Chief at the Center for Development and Civic Engagement. A huge “Thank-you!” goes out to all of those that made this project possible.
